The global healthcare company that specializes in lifesaving medicines and technologies for infusion, transfusion and clinical nutrition, Fresenius Kabi has begun the construction of its third manufacturing plant with PIISA Industrial Park.

The investment of around € 20 million will add approximately 80,000 sq. ft. to the existing buildings and will also bring 500 new jobs to the area of Haina, San Cristobal. Furthermore, the installations will have an innovative sterilization system that will add value to the site by increasing manufacturing capability and substantially reducing delivery time for its products.

Mats Henriksson, CEO of Fresenius Kabi, said the products manufactured by the company in the Dominican Republic are important in the provision of healthcare far beyond the country. “Our employees here in Haina do an excellent job, and will continue to produce high-quality medical devices that provide healthcare professionals with the equipment they need to help their patients,” Henriksson said.

Also on hand for the ceremony was Dr. Christian Hauer, President Medical Devices Division of Fresenius Kabi. “This expansion will enable us to reach new potential in regard to our production capacities,” Hauer said. “Our strong commitment to our production site in Haina will benefit even more patients, and allow us to play an even greater role in improving the lives of chronically and critically ill people around the world.”
Luisa Fernández, Executive Director of the National Free Zone Council, indicated that since its beginnings Fresenius Kabi has contributed significantly to the growth of the medical device sub-sector, which has become the principal manufacturing subsector in the country since for 2017 it exported a total value of US$1.497 billion.

“We´re confident that the new operations will contribute significantly to the strengthening and development of the free zones and the Dominican export sector”, Luisa stated; and in the name of the Dominican government she expressed its thanks for the trust and confidence the company has shown to the country.
